UPDATE: The Hastings Center has posted a slightly edited version of the December 6 post from this blog about MAID as a human right. The Center is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan bioethics research institute based in Garrison, New York. It was instrumental in establishing the field of bioethics. Its mission is to address ethical issues in health care, science, and technology. “Is Medical Aid in Dying a Human Right? Another View” can be found here.

In consideration of the political season, I present a poem that gives new meaning to the word “impeached”:
Glutton
Into the flaming peach she sped.
Passing through fastnesses of flesh
Down juicy channels. Her red head
Turned regularly, like a worm’s,
Hale in its element of fire.
She met the fruit on its own terms.
She tunneled into its embrace
And sank her teeth into its flesh
Utterly heedless of disgrace.
Then, when her seeking mouth had reached
Its cold, hard core, she smiled like fire,
So full, so fully self-impeached.
